Concrete Countertops

Shown here is a section of a concrete countertop with the grinding and polishing equipment.  There are 5 inch diameter, diamond grit polishing pads from 50 grit to 1500 grit.

I start with the 50 grit, then slurry with pure portland cement mixed with colored dye and a small amount of water to get it to the consistency of peanut butter.  I pre-wet the surface with water and keep it damp to spread the slurry with a 5 or 6 inch putty knife.

After 2 days, I grind with 100 grit and slurry again if necessary.  Then I grind with 200 grit and slurry again if necessary.  If no more slurry is necessary, then I go ahead and polish to 1500 grit if a glossy surface is desired.  If a matte finish is preferred, I stop at 400 or 800 grit.
